In CC2015+ we have the “web optimized svg” export (located in File > Export) which is smart about how it outputs an SVG, but it’s missing a critical component for this demonstration: the new output format does not honor some of the features of the old “Save As SVG” format (located in File > Save As). Even more fun, there will be SVG animation effects using the GreenSock Animation Platform (GSAP)! First, there’s a mandatory overview of Illustrator’s SVG export formats. Not only will the results be interactive, they will be so with the help of the wonderful Vue.js javascript single-page application framework. ![]() With this demonstration, Adobe Illustrator’s variable data feature will be used to drive the creation of unique documents which are also imbued with interactivity and are also linked amongst each other! The documents will make use of Illustrator’s graph objects and external text graph data brought in by the VariableImporter script. Thanks to Illustrator’s SVG output functions, it is actually possible to create an ‘application’ based on javascript running in the SVG file. One kind of output that is less common coming out of Illustrator is the interactive SVG. You could say that it’s taking an art resource and editing it such that different results are produced in a new form for the various purposes. ![]() In Adobe Illustrator there are many output options, varying from print to interactive kinds of files.
